Harrell Charlotte Expansion

DCS would not exist without the commitment of our founding Board Chair, Paul H. Harrell, Jr.

A native of Greensboro, NC and a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Paul was a devoted advocate for all students. After a successful career in the textile industry in New York, Paul resided in Delaware and took on his second career in education reform.

He worked tirelessly to make sure that high school graduation, college access, a fulfilling career, and a full life were accessible to every young person. One of his proudest roles was serving as a founding partner in DCS and he was dogged in his belief that DCS should reach as many learners as possible in and outside of Delaware.

By coincidence, Dr. Tony Alleyne began his career in education with Teach for America, Charlotte at Martin Luther King Middle School in Hidden Valley. Thus, the program expansion to the City of Charlotte aligned perfectly for DCS.

The DCS program expansion into North Carolina began in 2020 with an intentional partnership with West Charlotte High School. There, the first group of scholars were recruited for Summer 2021.
