Congratulations to DCS Executive Director, Dr. Tony Alleyne, on receiving the Teach for America-Delaware Markell Leadership Award!
The award, which recognizes Teach for America alumni that have made a difference for students in traditionally underserved communities, was given to Dr. Alleyne on June 7, 2019 at The Queen in Wilmington. Honorees must be educational leaders and have at least four years of experience in Delaware.
When discussing why Dr. Alleyne was chosen for the award, Teach for America-Delaware’s executive director, Tamara Smith said, “Dr. Alleyne’s leadership, both as an alum of Teach For America and the Executive Director of Delaware College Scholars, has positively impacted the lives of countless students across the state. We are incredibly proud of his work with some of Delaware’s highest achieving students and supporting their path to college and beyond.”
Dr. Alleyne added, “My experience with Teach for America as a teacher, coach and corp member advisor helped set the foundation for the DCS program. The skills I learned in Teach for America helped me understand and appreciate how we as educators have a real opportunity to provide students from underserved communities with the information they need to break down barriers and succeed in high school and college. It’s an honor to be recognized by such a well-respected organization boasting a network of some of the best educational leaders in the nation.”
Recently, Dr. Alleyne has also received leadership awards from the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University and the Delaware Business Times.
